Dell’s Latitude E4200 and E4300 portables are being advertised as offering, “a dedicated low-voltage sub-processor and OS that can enable multi-day battery life.”

This means running Linux in ‘instant-on’ mode for super quick access to e-mail, calendar, attachments, contacts and even the Interwibble on a super low-power ARM processor, whilst the system’s main operating system would run separately on an Intel Core2 Duo processor.

It’s unclear which ARM processor Dell is using in its Latitude E4200 and E4300, but most believe it would be similar to Texas Instruments’ OMAP2 device.

No word about pricing and availability.

Sharp new design; tons of business-friendly features; highly configurable; excellent battery.

The bad:
Merely average performance; somewhat heavy.

The bottom line:
A total revamp of Dell’s ubiquitous business laptop line, the Latitude E6400 offers Intel’s latest Centrino 2 mobile platform and introduces a brushed-metal design that works at home or office, but the real highlight here is the long battery life.

Rating: Very good – 7.8.

Laptopmag reviews the Dell Latitude E6400 and writes:

Priced at $1,463, the Dell Latitude E6400 is a durable and secure notebook that offers snappy performance and plenty of endurance. And thanks to Dell’s redesign, this is one sleek business notebook you’ll want to be seen carrying. Power users will want to upgrade to discrete graphics, and we wish the touchpad were bigger, but overall the E6400 is an very good choice.
Pros

Top-notch security and durability
Eye-catching design
Long endurance with nine-cell battery
Can charge gadgets via USB with system off
Intuitive ControlPoint software

Cons

Small touchpad
Display could be brighter
