With the price of NAND flash memory continuing its steady sequential decline, Apple cut the price of its Solid State Drive (SSD)-equipped MacBook Air by half a grand.

“The Cupertino-based Mac maker is now selling its super slim 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with a 64GB solid state drive for $2598, down from the $3098 fetching price that was listed as recently as last week,” the report says.

The $500 price cut is achieved by reducing the prices of laptop’s 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor by $100, and the 64GB SSD by $400.

The basic Macbook Air configuration is priced at $1,799 and includes an 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 80GB hard drive.

Secondly, the company slashed the cost of the Flash memory-based 64GB SSD drive upgrade to $599 from $999. That means customers can now configured a 1.6GHz MacBook Air with an SSD drive for as little as $2398.

The Apple’s MacBook Air is one of the superfine laptop in the world. The Apple fan from Germany are claiming that the edge of the MacBook Air laptop is not only sharp – but downright dangerous. The details are a little hard to suss out due to the language barrier, but it would appear the Air’s bottom edge made nasty work of the human flesh like someone had insulted its mother. Another MBA owner claims his computer is sharp enough to slice bread, though we assume it’s not used for buttering. Honestly, we’re not sure what kind of danger an innocent MacBook Air could really pose besides causing you to throw out your back constantly plugging in the AC to charge that not-quite-as-advertised battery.

The Core 2 Duo used in the MacBook Air is 60 percent smaller than the normal sized chip. The small form factor Intel Core 2 Duo processors in the Apple’s ultraportable run at either 1.6Ghz or 1.8GHz. These chips are based on the Intel “Merom” 65-nanometer core. The CPUs have a power consumption of 20 watts, which is lower than 35 watts in similar standard-sized Merom chips.

The MacBook Air SuperDrive connects to MacBook Air with a single USB cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adapter, and it’ll work whether your MacBook Air is plugged in or running on battery power.
